On March 8, 2020, Sreepadam School of Arts, Austin Hindu Temple, Nritya School of Arts and AYUDH Houston came together to present Amrita Dhara: a Bharatnatyam Production dedicated to the Australian Wildfire relief efforts. The fundraiser took place at the Austin Hindu Temple and was virtually broadcasted worldwide.
The Australian wildfires tore through acres of land and destroyed homes. A billion animals were estimated to have been killed and a majority of the surviving population was left without food, water or shelter. There was a massive surge of people coming forward to spread awareness of the heartbreaking situations in Australia. However, so much more help was still needed.
This issue touched our hearts. We came together to help raise money through our passion for art. What started off as a few girls wanting to raise any amount, even a hundred dollars, became a 20 dancer production with the support of our family, friends and community. Furthermore, we were able to bring awareness to how dire the situation in Australia truly was and how necessary it is for us to care for nature and other beings who we share our planet with.
We wanted to use our platform to show that now is the time to come together to save our planet and hope to be able to continue doing so. With unity and support from our community, we were able to raise $3200 that was donated to World Wildlife Fund Australia. Thank you to each and every one of you for the love and support throughout our humble project.
